Mountain Retreat by Fearon Hay Architects
New Zealand, a secluded area in the Southern Lakes region. Ideal location for a secret hideaway, nestled on a mountain slope overlooking Lake Wakatipu.
The architects, Tim Hay and Jeff Fearo, are known for their modernist designs seamlessly integrated into breathtaking landscapes. The colours and textures of both the exterior and the interior were inspired by surrounding nature and spectacular mountain views. Raw finish creates minmal, masculine effect. I love how the beech forest seems to enter through the panoramic windows.

The Pierre House by Tom Kunding
A house so perfectly integrated into the nature of San Juan Islands, that it almost disappears among the majestic rocks. The interior also blends seamlessly into the surroundings - both fireplace hearths, washbasin in the bathroom and even an entire powder room were carved out of existing raw stone. And by the way: in french 'the pierre' means 'rock'.

Pohutukawa beach house by Herbst Architects
Utterly perfect beach house in New Zealand - I simply couldn't take my eyes of the photos. Light, simple and elegant construction, interiors opened to the nature around, wooden details, mid-century furniture... and Finnish Secto lamps! (I must get at least one of them!)

Washington Park Residence in Seatlle
Superb design by Sullivan Conard Architects. I can learn a lot! Well thought out interiors composed with clean, elegant forms. Great use of materials - surfaces come alive with smooth or raw textures. And I can not stop to admire those detailed renderings!

Philippines: C House by Archipelago architects
Batangas, Philippines. This beautifully located house seems to breath in the fresh sea air. Spacious, open interiors were nicely softened by delicate beiges and natural textures. Simple idea (but not so easy to come up with) that works so well here! Don't you like the warm effect?

Modernism in Africa
Can you believe that this house was designed in 2003? Both cosy and elegant family home in Accra was created by Ghanaian architect Joe Osae-Addo. Inspiration? The contextual modernism of Finland’s Alvar Aalto, Australia’s Glenn Murcutt and L.A.’s Ray Kappe. The 2,500-square-foot house was build from local materials: timber and adobe mud blocks.
“It is not about edifice but rather harnessing the elements - trees, wind,
sun, and water - to create harmony, not the perfection that modernism
craves so much.”
